Hm... How about unique face expression. The ones that show an anime character or game character making cute/weird/unbelievable face expression. That should be fun, I think. This is only what I can think of now...

How about a symbol.
Something that represents a character or an anime instead of the character themselves.
*with my luck something similar has already been done*
(these are probably horrible examples but, thats what happens when I just go with whats on the top of head)
symbol - character - series
Lion - Saber - FSN
Starfish - Fuko Ibuki - Clannad
...Well theres 2 I can come up with more but, I don't want to give some of the ones I'd use away if this actually was the contest.
Continuing on, color scheme may work well too. Take a certain character and match him/her/them to a color and express the connection between the two.
A stupid easy example: Shana and red (Shakugan no Shana)
*reserved for more ideas that come to mind while I am bored in class*

funny thing is, I was thinking about starting off with a Chibi themed one (starting as in at #4 or whatever it is). Weird.... Chibis / Incest... yeah it's right up there... j/king
